MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL
The crowd we had at the championship football game at the Dome on the 26th was one of the largest (if not the largest) to see a Burroughs sporting event in

school history. In fact it may have been the largest gathering ever of Burroughs alumni, students, parents and friends. It was an incredible day. It was a near-perfect season.

As I replay the game in my head, I am reminded of the championship game in 2001. That game ended with Warsaw going on a long drive. They had the ball inside the ten yard line with 11 seconds left, needing a touchdown to win the game. Their quarterback rolled out and threw. The ball was tipped, and one of our players intercepted it in the end zone as time ran out. We won the championship 36-32. This year, we saw a similar scenario, except that the ball was tipped and the Richmond player caught it to go into the end zone for the win. It was a heartbreaking loss, one that I think our players and coaches will never forget.

2001 was my first year at Burroughs, and it was wonderful to be a part of the celebration that followed that victory. But, in many ways, the support that the community has shown for this team and their coaches in defeat means even more to me. All of those kids — and particularly the seniors — played with such passion and such enthusiasm. There is no doubt that they gave everything that they had. There is much to be proud of: Continue Reading

Rock-A-Bye . . .
Rock-A-Bye . . .

Beneath a full moon on the evening of November 20, eight JBS students slept like babies in the canopy of a stately white oak just east of the Kuehner Fine Arts Building. The sleepover, in hammocks suspended 20-60 feet above ground, was the culminating activity in a series of tree-climbing adventures: over the course of three Sunday afternoon sessions leading up to the sleepover, the students learned the art of single and double rope tree climbing under the guidance of Jon Richard of Vertical Voyages and under the additional supervision of Michael Dee (English; Outdoor Education). Our three major fund-raising events — Unique Boutique, Potpourri and the Auction — help us to create the great community that

defines JBS by bringing together literally hundreds of parents who share their time, talents and tireless dedication to the school. In addition to creating a wonderful sense of community, these events also raise a considerable amount of money which helps support our students, faculty and staff.

At our meeting in November, the Parents Council Board voted unanimously to allocate $47,059 to fund this year’s faculty/staff wish list and $25,000 for the 2010-11 Parents Council capital gift. The capital gift will be used to assist with making improvements and upgrades to administrative offices. The other major allocation, approved at our September board meeting, was an unrestricted gift of $40,000 to the school’s operating budget. Continue Reading
